As a Recovery Coach, I have always tried to stay on top of the newest studies on addiction, human behavioral theories, and research results as they are released. I 'm always interested in what science and other professionals have to share about helping to enrich and save lives. Over the past 4 or 5 decades, research has shown again and again that a critical factor in relapse prevention is the involvement of not only the addict or alcoholic seeking recovery, but also their families, concerned professionals, social systems, and workplace contributions.
I find that nearly everyone who has been suffering through the lows and consequences of addiction for a while have several things in common, no matter the gender, age, or other demographics. They all want to stop using the substances, they want to with all their hearts and mean what they say, but sadly cannot follow through... that's the saddest piece of this-the utter powerlessness over their own actions.
I have dedicated my efforts to helping these people, only because I know what worked for me and have watched it work for others. I read the new articles, pray for good research and keep doing what I do. Working with clients one-on-one to employ interventions that work.
