Okay, as promised, here is the first of several categories of recovery capital: Social or Community Capital is all about individual relationships, social networks, family unit relations, organized associations like sports teams, and 12-step mutual-aid fellowships. Every human being has a basic need to engage with other human beings. During periods of addiction there is a strong tendency to isolate, either willingly or not so willingly, and as a result, taking the first steps in a new life of recovery can feel scary and even shameful.

The overall point is that the more recovery capital a person has, the more solid their foundation in recovery. In recovery coaching, we do a lot of work around identifying and confirming recovery capital. As this blog thread continues, I will reveal several other types of capital. If you're in early recovery or you're thinking about recovery, following this thread will introduce you to a powerful and undeniable tool that works to help people stay clean and sober. In fact, recovery capital is an absolutely critical component to staying on the path to recovery. Next installment in a few weeks, but always remember that I'm willing to speak to anyone who's in the midst of a struggle, just send me a message through the "Contact" page.
